Meet coach

Raised in the Northern California surf haven of Santa Cruz, Matt Myers first stepped on a surfboard at age nine and hasn’t looked back since. Under the guidance of local pro Homer Henard, Matt began competing in his early teenage years and, along with securing a professional sponsorship, eventually earned his spot competing on the ASP World Qualifying Series.

Throughout his seven-year professional surfing career, Matt was exposed to a variety of roles within the surf industry and dabbled in WSL event commentary and professional judging; so, after finishing an Associate’s Degree from Cabrillo College, it was no surprise when he was offered a role with surf industry giant Rip Curl North America. Matt came on board with Rip Curl as the Team and Events Manager, a title that he held for ten years. Over the course of this time he worked hands-on with some of the world’s best, including world champions Mick Fanning, Gabriel Medina, Tom Curren, and Tyler Wright.

In 2021 Matt decided that it was time to branch out, to find a way to give back to the sport that had given him so much. Using the skills he gathered from a lifetime of dedication to surfing, Matt launched Myers Surf Mentorship. Today MSM provides coaching and mentorship for high performance surfers, focusing on achieving surfing goals and maximizing potential both in and out of the water.

With hands-on programs tailored to three key areas – performance (physical skills), guidance (navigating careers) and development (goals, mindfulness, clarity) – MSM imparts tools and methods to actualize dreams.

Matt currently lives and surfs in Santa Cruz, California, with his fiancé Melody Hoffman.
